4 Things That May Help You Prevent Urinary Tract Infections

Health & Medical Blog

If you suffer from chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs), you are not alone. This problem is very prevalent with women; however, there might things you can do to reduce your risks of developing another one of these infections. Here are some things that you can do or avoid doing that may help you with this issue.

Wipe Carefully

One major cause of a UTI is from feces. The bacteria in feces can lead to an infection in any part of the bladder system if it enters inside. This can occur in several ways, but one of the common ways this happens is from wiping yourself the wrong way. When you urinate or have a bowel movement, wipe yourself from front to back. If you need to wipe a second time, take a new piece of toilet paper and wipe again from front to back. Wiping in the opposite direction can cause the bacteria from your feces to enter through your urethra.

Handle Anal Sex Properly

If you take part in anal sex, you should avoid switching directly from it to vaginal sex. If you want to switch to vaginal sex after anal sex, make sure the man cleans his penis thoroughly first. This will help kill the bacteria that might be on his penis, and this will reduce your risks of developing a UTI.

Avoid Baths

Taking a bath may be a relaxing event for you, but it could increase your chances of developing a bladder infection. When you sit in the bath water, it presents the risk of bacteria from your own body entering through your urethra.

Increase Your Fluid Intake

Drinking more water and adding cranberry juice to your daily routine is also a good idea. When you add extra fluid to your body, it helps clean out your system, and this could help keep your bladder cleaner. Cranberry juice is a beverage that is often recommended for people with UTIs. This is primarily because it has the ability to kill the bacteria in your bladder that causes infections. If you drink this daily, it could help you prevent UTIS, and if you drink it while you have an infection it may help clear up the infection faster.

Getting chronic UTIs can be miserable, painful, and frustrating, and you might be sick of taking antibiotics to clear them up. If you would like to learn more about preventing UTIS, contact a doctor today at a clinic like Alliance For Women's Health, Inc.

Seniors Deserve the Best

Seniors are like any other specialized group of people. They need services specific to their needs. Everything from nutrition to housekeeping to travel is different for seniors, and the services they receive should reflect that. I am a mental health care provider, and I work exclusively with people over the age of 65. My goal is to help educate the general population about the special needs of seniors and to inspire people to make their homes, businesses and lives more acceptable to the older generations. Seniors deserve our care and attention, and I hope that I can show others how to provide it.
